US announces negotiations for new protocol with New Zealand

The US Treasury Department announced on 1 May 2008 that the United States-New Zealand plan to begin negotiations for a protocol to amend the bilateral income tax treaty between the two countries that entered into force in 1982. The announcement states that the first round of negotiations is expected to begin 16 June 2008 in Washington, DC. The resultant changes to the treaty will be incorporated into a protocol to the existing treaty, rather than through the negotiation of a new treaty.
