On 14 March 2020, the Turkmenistan Government announced that the parliament (Mejlis) has ratified the pending income tax treaty with Singapore. The treaty, signed 27 August 2019, is the first of its kind between the two countries. It will apply in Turkmenistan from 1 January of the year following its entry into force and will apply in Singapore in respect of withholding taxes from 1 January of the year following its entry into force and in respect of other taxes from 1 January of the second year following its entry into force.
