On 4 July 2022, the Timor-Leste National Parliament approved the ratification of the pending income tax treaty with Portugal. The treaty, signed 27 September 2011, is the first of its kind between the two countries, and the first with any country for Timor-Leste. It will enter into force 30 days after the ratification instruments are exchanged and will apply from 1 January of the year following its entry into force.
