The income and capital tax treaty between Chile and South Africa entered into force on 11 August 2016. The treaty, signed 11 July 2012, is the first of its kind between the two countries. Taxes Covered The treaty covers Chilean taxes imposed under the Income Tax Act, and South African normal tax, secondary tax on companies and withholding tax on royalties. Residence The treaty includes the provision that if a company is considered resident in both Contracting States, the competent authorities will determine the company's residence for the purpose of the treaty through mutual agreement.
