The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has issued two releases announcing that it is ready to implement the increase in Value-Added Tax (VAT) and the Sugary Beverages Levy (SBL), both of which comes into effect on 1 April 2018. The VAT rates will be increased from 14% to 15% and will apply for a period of at least 12 months, during which parliament must approve legislation to give the increase permanent effect.
