South Africa has amended the requirements for claiming input value added tax (VAT) deductions for VAT paid on imported goods. The change affects when a vendor can claim a deduction. Under the current rules, which end April 1st 2014, VAT paid on goods imported into South Africa can be claimed at the earlier of the invoice date or the payment date.
