On 20 May 2009, a protocol was signed to the income and capital tax treaty between the United States and Luxembourg signed 3 April 1996. A US Department of Treasury press release notes that this agreement incorporates the OECD tax treaty standard on exchange of information for tax purposes. The protocol is similar in nature to the Tax Information Exchange Agreements between the United States and Liechtenstein (signed 8 December 2008) and Gibraltar (signed 31 March 2009).
