On 22 April 2023, the Portuguese Government published the Joint Declaration of the XIII Luso-Brazilian Summit. Among other things, the declaration notes that the Brazilian President and the Portuguese Prime Minister have expressed their expectation that negotiations for an amending protocol to the 2000 tax treaty between the two countries can be concluded as quickly as possible. The protocol will be the second to amend the treaty and must be finalized, signed, and ratified before entering into force.
