On 28 February 2018, officials from Mauritius and the United Kingdome signed an amending protocol to the 1981 tax treaty between the two countries. The protocol replaces Article 10 (Dividends) to provide for a general exemption from withholding tax on dividends except for dividends paid out of income (including gains) derived directly or indirectly from immovable property by an investment vehicle that distributes most of this income annually and whose income from such immovable property is exempted from tax, in which case the maximum rate of tax is 15% unless the beneficial owner is a pension scheme.
