On 21 July 2023, Portugal's Council of Ministers approved the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) Multilateral Agreement on Social Security, which was signed in 2015. The agreement has also been signed by Brazil, Cape Verde, Mozambique, Sao Tome and Principe, and Timor-Leste. Other members of the CPLP that have not yet signed include Angola, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau. The agreement must be approved by three countries for it to come into force. In addition to Portugal, the agreement has already been approved by Timor-Leste and Brazil is reportedly close to finalizing the approval process.
