On 7 December 2020, officials from Norway and the UK reportedly signed a transitional agreement to maintain the coordination of social security benefits that will apply from 1 January 2021, following the end of the transitional period for the UK's exit from the EU. The agreement is based on the 1990 Norway-UK social security agreement and will apply until a new permanent agreement between the two countries is signed and enters into force.
