On 1 October 2023, Nigeria's Federal Government announced an agreement to waive VAT on diesel for 6 months. As previously reported, the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) was instructed to begin charging VAT at the rate of 7.5% on diesel imports in June 2023. The agreement was reached during a meeting with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) on measures to address the dispute arising from the removal of the subsidy for premium motor spirit (gasoline).
