Malaysia Postpones Tourism Tax for Digital Platform Providers to 2023

The Royal Malaysia Customs Department has issued a notice announcing the postponement of the implementation date for tourism tax on accommodation premises reserved through digital platform service providers (DPSP). Previously postponed to 1 January 2022, the notice provides that the Minister of Finance has agreed to further postpone the effective date for the implementation of the imposition of tourism tax on accommodation premises booked through DPSP to 1 January 2023. The effective date for DPSP registration has also been postponed accordingly from 1 October 2021 to 1 October 2022.
