On 12 June 2024, Japan's House of Councilors (upper house of parliament - Diet) approved the pending social security agreement with Austria. The agreement was approved by the House of Representatives (lower house) on 21 May. The agreement, signed 19 January 2024, is the first of its kind between the two countries and will enter into force on the first day of the third month after the ratification instruments are exchanged.
