According to a release from the Kyrgyzstan Ministry of Economy and Commerce, officials from Japan and Kyrgyzstan met to discuss the development of bilateral cooperation on 5 June 2024, including the negotiation of an income tax treaty. Any resulting treaty would need to be finalized, signed, and ratified before entering into force and, once in force and effective, would replace the 1986 tax treaty between Japan and the former Soviet Union as it applies in relations between Japan and Kyrgyzstan.
