According to a joint statement published by the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, negotiations are ongoing between India and the U.S. for a social security agreement. The joint statement follows the conclusion of the Twelfth Ministerial meeting of the Trade Policy Forum on 23 November 2021 and notes that the Ministers have acknowledged the ongoing discussions on a Social Security Totalization Agreement and welcomed further engagement on pursuing such an agreement. Any resulting agreement would be the first of its kind between the two countries and must be finalized, signed, and ratified before entering into force.
