As previously reported, Hungary published Law LXXXIII of 2023 on the amendment of individual tax laws in Gazette No. 171 of 30 November 2023. Among other things, the law provides for the repeal of MT Decree 49/1979. (XII. 6.) on the promulgation of the 1979 tax treaty between Hungary and the United States. Although repealed, it is also clarified that the treaty continues to apply with respect to taxes deducted at source on amounts paid or credited no later than 31 December 2023, and with respect to other taxes for tax periods ending on 31 December 2023 at the latest.
