Ghana Suspends Implementation of 15% VAT on Residential Electricity Consumption

On 7 February 2024, the Ghana Ministry of Finance issued a press statement on the implementation of VAT on electricity consumption by residential customers. The statement notes that as per letters sent to electricity providers in December 2023, VAT was to be implemented on electricity consumption by residential customers. VAT was to be implemented at a rate of 15% from January 2024 on electricity consumption above a maximum consumption level. Supplies below the maximum level remain exempt.
