On 30 August 2018, the Finnish government approved for ratification the pending income tax treaty with Hong Kong. The treaty, signed 24 May 2018 ({News-2018-05-31/T/5-previous coverage}), is the first of its kind between the two jurisdictions and will enter into force 30 days after the ratification instruments are exchanged. Once in force, the treaty will generally apply in Finland from 1 January of the year following its entry into force and in Hong Kong from 1 April of the year following its entry into force.
