Effective 20 February 2018, Ethiopia increased the value added tax (VAT) registration threshold from ETB 500,000 to ETB 1 million in taxable supplies in a 12-month period (past or expected). The registration threshold applies for both resident and non-resident suppliers, although non-residents are generally only required to register if they provide goods or services to Ethiopian residents through the internet or have a permanent establishment in Ethiopia. Otherwise, supplies made by non-residents are generally subject to reverse charge.
