On 12 May 2021, the General Court of the European Union issued a judgment that upholds the European Commission's 2018 decision that Luxembourg granted illegal State aid (a selective advantage) of around EUR 120 million to the Engie group (formally GDF Suez). The decision concerns tax rulings granted in relation to two intra-group financing arrangements implemented in 2008 and 2010 for two Engie group companies in Luxembourg, which allowed the group companies to avoid paying taxes on almost all their profits.
