The Bulgarian parliament is considering a draft bill submitted on 29 July 2020 that would change the taxation of unbuilt agricultural land, which is currently exempt from real estate tax. Where individuals or legal entities own more than 20,000 decares (1,000 sq. meters) of unbuilt agricultural land in Bulgaria, they will be subject to real estate tax at a rate of BGN 1 to 10 per decare depending on the category of land. If approved, the change would apply from 1 January 2021.
