According to a release from Bulgaria's Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, officials from Bulgaria and Japan met on 7 October 2021 to discuss bilateral issues, including Bulgaria's interest in the negotiation of a social security agreement. Any resulting agreement would be the first of its kind between the two countries and must be finalized, signed, and ratified before entering into force.
