According to a release from the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, officials from Australia and Bulgaria met on 27 March 2024 to discuss bilateral relations, including Bulgaria's readiness to begin negotiations for an income tax treaty, as well as its desire to conclude a social security agreement. Any resulting treaty or agreement would be the first of its kind between the countries and must be finalized, signed, and ratified before entering into force.
