On 8 November 2023, Austria's Federal Council (upper house of parliament) approved the pending protocol to the 2006 tax treaty with New Zealand. The protocol, signed 12 September 2023, is the first to amend the treaty and will enter into force once the ratification instruments are exchanged. It will apply in respect of withholding taxes from the first day of the second month after its entry into force. It will apply in respect of other taxes in Austria from 1 January next following its entry into force and in New Zealand from 1 April next following its entry into force.
