The Austrian government is reportedly planning to reduce the excess profits threshold for the energy crisis contribution (windfall tax) on oil and gas companies. Introduced in 2022, the temporary contribution is levied at a rate of 40% tax on excess profit, which is the amount of profit exceeding 120% of average taxable profits in the past four years, 2018 to 2021. The government plans to reduce this to 110% of average taxable profits in the past four years.
