On 10 January 2018, Austria's Council of Ministers approved for ratification the new income tax treaty with Japan. The treaty, signed 30 January 2017 ({News-2017-02-02/T/3-previous coverage}), will enter into force 30 days after the ratification instruments are exchanged and will apply from 1 January of the year following its entry into force. Once in force and effective, the new treaty will replace the 1961 tax treaty between the two countries.
