Algeria Considering Relaxing Foreign Investment Restrictions

On 5 June 2014, Algeria's Prime Minister announced that the government is considering relaxing certain local majority ownership restrictions on foreign investment. However, restrictions on foreign investment in strategic sectors would remain. The restrictions were implemented in 2009 and 2010, and restrict all investment types in the productions of goods or services to 49% foreign ownership. The relaxing of the restrictions is required for Algeria's to obtain membership in the World Trade Organization.
