According to recent reports, UK HMRC has decided not to enforce penalties on taxpayers that have not yet signed up for the Making Tax Digital (MTD) program for VAT return filing. Under the program, VAT registered businesses with taxable turnover above the VAT registration threshold are required to keep digital records and submit VAT returns to HMRC using compatible software for VAT periods beginning on or after 1 April.
