On 17 July 2008, the New Zealand Minister of Finance and the Australian Treasurer announced that negotiations for a new tax treaty between New Zealand and Australia are expected to be completed by the end of 2008. Once signed and in force, the new treaty will replace the New Zealand-Australia income tax treaty of 27 January 1995.
