On 17 December 2008, the Ukrainian Ministry of Finance made yet another attempt to denounce the Cyprus-former USSR income and capital tax treaty of 29 October 1982, which Ukraine and Cyprus currently apply in bilateral relations. The initiative failed because the required 226-vote majority was not reached. This was the second attempt in 2008 to unilaterally denounce the treaty. The first attempt occured in June 2008, when 223 deputies voted in favour of the denunciation.
