The Netherlands Reduces Unemployment Fund Contribution Rates from August 2021

The Dutch Tax Authority has issued a release announcing that the government's planned reduction of the unemployment fund (AWf) will be implemented from August 2021. The reduction is being provided in relation to the withdrawal of the new job-related investment tax credit (BIK) with retroactive effect from 1 January 2021 due to potential State aid issues in the EU. With the withdrawal, the AWf contribution rate is reduced from 2.7% to 0.34% for employees on a permanent contract (the lower premium rate) and is reduced from 7.7% to 5.34% for other employees (the higher premium rate).
