On 30 April 2018, the Netherlands published in the Official Gazette the law for the ratification of the pending income tax treaty with Malawi. The treaty, signed 19 April 2015 ({News-2015-05-14/T/3-previous coverage}), is the first of its kind directly between the two countries, although the 1948 tax treaty between the Netherlands and the UK had been extended to Malawi through the exchange of notes in 1969 but was terminated by Malawi with effect from 1 January 2014.
