Taiwan's Executive Yuan (Cabinet) has issued a release announcing its approval on 12 September 2019 of a proposal from the Ministry of Finance to abolish the Stamp Duty Act. According to the release, the stamp duty is an outdated tax mechanism that creates an unnecessary administrative burden and perceived risk of double taxation, without generating a significant amount of tax revenue overall. The proposal has been submitted to the Legislative Yuan for review and approval.
