The Swedish government has announced that it intends to extend the country's tax exemption for biofuels for a further 10 years. Sweden has exempted liquid biofuels from energy and CO₂ taxation since 2002, with a one-year extension to 31 December 2022 approved by the European Commission in September 2021 under State aid rules. The Swedish government is preparing to submit an application to the European Commission for State aid approval to ensure that biofuels continue to receive tax support from 1 January 2023.
