On 8 July 2022, Russia's Federation Council (upper house of parliament) approved the ratification of the pending social security agreement with Tajikistan, following its approval in the State Duma (lower house) on 28 June. The agreement, signed 15 September 2021, is the first of its kind between the two countries and will enter into force 30 days after the ratification instruments are exchanged.
