According to a joint statement published by Peru's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, officials from Peru and Spain met on 28 February 2019 and signed an amending protocol to the 2003 social security agreement between the two countries. The protocol is the first to amend the agreement and will enter into force after the ratification instruments are exchanged. During the meeting, the two sides also agreed to accelerate negotiations for the signing of a new income tax treaty, which would replace the treaty that was signed in 2006 but was never ratified.
