Malaysian Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng announced on 16 July 2018, that a Sales and Service Tax (SST) will be implemented 1 September 2018, subject to the passage of the necessary laws in parliament. The new SST will be levied at a rate of 5% or 10% on goods and 6% on services and replaces the GST that was effectively abolished from 1 June 2018 ({News-2018-05-18/A/3-previous coverage}).
