On 29 May 2024, Lithuania's Ministry of Finance announced that the government has approved an amendment to Law No. XIV-1936 of 9 May 2023 that would extend the temporary solidarity contribution on banks by an additional year to 2025. As previously reported, the temporary solidarity contribution is currently payable for 2023 and 2024 at a rate of 60% on net interest income to the extent exceeding the average net interest income in a prior four-year period, increased by 50%. The extension of the contribution must now be approved by the Lithuanian parliament (Seimas).
