The US Congress has enacted legislation (the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012) to avert the fiscal cliff that would have resulted from the expiration of the Bush-era personal income tax rates. The legislation also includes changes in the tax rates for capital gains and dividends and the rates for US estate and gift taxes.
