The financial and economic affairs committee of the Kuwait parliament has reportedly approved a draft proposal for the introduction of a remittance tax on expatriates. A similar proposal was approved by the committee in 2018 but was unable to obtain approval from the full parliament. Under the current draft, the remittance tax would be levied at progressive rates of one to five percent depending on the amount remitted, with the top rate applying for amounts of KWD 500 or greater.
