The financial committee of the Kuwait parliament reportedly approved draft legislation on 1 April 2018 for the introduction of a remittance tax on funds remitted abroad by expatriates, despite opposition from the government and the central bank. The tax would be levied at progressive rates of one to five percent depending on the income of the expatriate. The proposal must now be debated in the full parliament.
