According to the transcript of a debate held on 22 September 2022 in the Dáil Éireann (lower house of parliament), the Irish government intends to introduce a windfall tax on energy companies. According to Tánaiste Leo Varadkar, the windfall tax will be used to fund measures to address cost-of-living issues, including measures to reduce the amount of tax people pay and reduce costs in areas such as childcare, healthcare, public transport, and rent. Details of the measures will be presented on Budget Day, which is scheduled for 27 September 2022.
