Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications, Eamon Ryan, announced the publication of the Energy (Windfall Gains in the Energy Sector) (Temporary Solidarity Contribution) Bill 2023 on 23 June 2023. The bill provides for the introduction of a 75% solidarity contribution on the taxable profits of companies in the fossil fuel production and refining sector to the extent exceeding 1.2 times the average taxable profits of a company for the period 2018 to 2021.
