Ireland's Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications has announced that Minister Eamon Ryan signed an order on 2 August 2023 to commence the Energy (Windfall Gains in the Energy Sector) (Temporary Solidarity Contribution) Act 2023 with effect from that date. The Act was signed into law on 17 July 2023 and provides for the introduction of a 75% solidarity contribution on the taxable profits of energy companies in the fossil fuel production and refining sector to the extent exceeding 1.2 times the average taxable profits of a company for the period 2018 to 2021.
