According to a release from the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, officials from Latvia and Iraq met on 15 May 2023 to discuss bilateral relations, including the possibility of launching negotiations for an income tax treaty. Any resulting treaty would be the first of its kind between the two countries and must be finalized, signed, and ratified before entering into force.
