On 26 July 2018, the Greek parliament approved Law No. 4557 to transpose Directive (EU) 2015/849 of 20 May 2015 on the prevention of the use of the financial system for the purposes of money laundering or terrorist financing (the Fourth EU Anti-Money Laundering Directive). The Directive: Reinforces the risk assessment obligation for banks, lawyers, and accountants; Sets clear transparency requirements for beneficial ownership for companies, including the requirement to establish central registers; Facilitates cooperation and exchange of information between Financial Intelligence Units from different EU Member States; and Reinforces the sanctioning powers of competent authorities.
