The Greek Ministry of Economy and Finance recently announced plans for the introduction of a temporary solidarity contribution on oil refining companies. The contribution is equal to 33% on the excess profits of refiners for the fiscal year 2023 in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2022/1854. For this purposes, excess profits are profits exceeding average profits in the years 2018 to 2021 increased by 20%. Refiners will need to submit a return by the end of September 2024, with the temporary solidary contribution for 2023 to be paid by 28 February 2025.
