French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire announced on 17 December 2018 that France will not be waiting for agreement on a digital services tax in the EU and is planning to introduce its own tax targeting Google, Apple, Facebook, and Amazon (GAFA) from 1 January 2019. This so-called GAFA tax is expected to raise tax revenue of approximately EUR 500 million in 2019. Details of the planned GAFA tax will be published once available.
