On 22 November 2022, the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) issued a press release announcing its judgment finding that the provision of the anti-money-laundering directive whereby Member States must ensure that the information on the beneficial ownership of corporate and other legal entities is accessible in all cases to any member of the general public is invalid as it seriously violates the right to privacy and the protection of personal data.
